Hello,

I'd like to hear from Foundation/grantmaking organizations about the type of financial information they request in their grantees' follow ups. Do you ask for an updated project budget? Year end financials? Balance sheet to date? Thanks for any info!

@BeverlyDupree, we have a project budget template in Excel that grantees submitted with the grant application. For the follow up, we provide the previous budget template for them to complete how the actual spending compared to the proposed budget. Hope this helps!

@DevinCecere would you be willing to share your project budget template?

We provide a "budget template" using the table feature on the application with specific instructions on how to complete the table (budget section attached for reference). We share the original project budget onto the follow-up reports and have grantees update it at mid-year and year-end. We always stress that it's not about making sure every line item matches the original budget. Things change and that's okay! It's really just a way for them to reflect on how the project is progressing, whether they're on track, and to help us understand any changes that happened along the way.

Applicants can select from the following categories in the table:

    • Personnel & Benefits
    •  Professional Development
    •  Contract Services / Consultants
    •  Program Expenses / Direct Services
    •  Overhead Costs
    •  Scholarships / Tuition Assistance
    •  Equipment & Technology
    •  Supplies & Materials
    •  Marketing / Communications
    •  In-Kind Contributions
