Fund Holder Identification
We received an email from a gentleman interested in opening a DAF. We do not recognize the name and he said he would call but he is traveling overseas. We have been communicating via email and he is very interested in starting a fund. I am a little nervous because all of the identity theft and so forth going around these days. All of our fund holders we have met with either physically or through a Zoom call.
Does anyone have a process in place where you require specific identification to open a fund? I know financial institutions have their requirements and request things like SSN. Just wondering if anyone also requires that information to create a new fund.
Thanks!

We ask for personal information like the SSN as part of our process. It is helpful since many of our donors are required to complete an 8283 form and we help them with that.

It sounds scammy to me. He'll pay by check and it'll clear but then be clawed back by the bank.
