How Philanthropy Can Support Culturally-Led Mental Health Programs

Mindful Philanthropy is pleased to announce the release of our latest funder guidance, For the Community, By the Community: How Philanthropy Can Support Culturally-Led Mental Health Programs. We hope that this guidance can be helpful as you make an impact in the mental health of communities of color. The guidance is available for free download:

Culturally-led programs can support the mental health of communities of color by centering their unique needs, histories, and traditions to improve well-being. Yet, these programs are often overlooked and underfunded by philanthropy. This guide outlines five key considerations for supporting culturally-led programs. Accompanying this guide is a resource document highlighting four organizations that exemplify one or more of these considerations and serve as examples for funders seeking opportunities for impact. Additional nonprofit profiles will be released in the coming weeks.

To help funders learn more about this guidance and how to apply it to their portfolios, Mindful Philanthropy held a webinar, How Philanthropy Can Support Culturally-Led Mental Health Programs, on February 28th at 12:30 - 1:30pm EST. Access the full webinar recording here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJezVoo13Mw.

This webinar highlighted the urgent need for philanthropy to support culturally-led programs, how to use our funder guidance for decision-making, and additional strategies and lessons learned from fellow funders.
