@SaraOmari we currently have 29 people registered for the Portland Regional Training event! While we have trainers living all over the country that will come in for the event, we are also fortunate to have two based in Vancouver, Washington who will be leading the GLM/SLM sessions. @CassKaminetz @ElenaKeltz @AllieCarreon…

Hi @EvannaHardin, When I was a Foundant client, my first year after coming from paper we had a 46% submission rate. We were all honestly shocked because we had never been able to see how many students started an application before. In subsequent years we were able to target students with applications in draft for in-person…

I believe the most important step I took (and now incorporate into professional growth for those that report to me) is understanding your community. Even staff that grew up in the community they are serving will hold biases and lenses based on their experiences. Mapping the data of your community and spending time with it…

The step I took directly after my grantmaking role was Donor Relations. I will say, it wasn't a great fit for me. I prefer to work with nonprofits and community funders over requesting funding from donors. That being said, one of my close colleagues moved from grantmaking to donor relations and is now the ED at a Community…

I have a BA in Communications. I spent my early career in college access work, running education programs for students and parents. I wrote my first grant to fund a FAFSA completion incentive program where we rewarded students with breakfast burritos for completing their FAFSA. The second grant I wrote was for scholarship…

Great question @AudraClodfelter! I used this workflow myself for several years prior to the invention of Universal Application and review committees. The "committee" created and set in your Universe can be thought of as the list of possible reviewers for that scholarship. You don't have to assign any request to all members…
-
@LaurieAbildso I have a quick follow-up question Laurie. In your committees of 3-4. Does every member review every application or do they divide them up among the members? How many will end up actually reviewing each application?

Hey Everyone! I'm Alyse Braaten, a Manager of Client Services here at Foundant. I'll be leading our Scholarship Chat next week and I couldn't be more excited! Having spent 10+ years administering scholarships prior to my time with Foundant, time with my scholarship people is always a delight. Remember, you'll learn from…

Hi Kate! Many of our client will use GLM for the story telling type of coding that you're talking about. That's because you have more flexibility to determine your own coding categories in GLM. An important thing to remember is that your DAF grants don't, generally, live in GLM. So if you're wanting to do story telling…

@BettieStammerjohn I know many foundations have emergency policies that kick in during a state of emergency that make allowances for grants to individuals and for profit entities. Community Foundations across the country are administering CARES Act funding to small businesses. They are able to do so through these…

@SarahBattersby Were you part of the start up of this group or did you join it after it was established? I'd be really curious to know if it just started with some emails saying, "hey, we should be talking more."

When you meet, what's on the agenda? How long do those meetings normally last? What does communication outside the scheduled meetings look like? I would guess this is a lot of keeping a general pulse on the sector and less leveraging funding. Does that sound correct? Tagging some of our attendees below to help people find…

@JulieLLaLuzerne I love the idea to Live Stream some awards! Can you describe your plans for that a little more?
-
@DeborahClark in that Scholarship Agreement form, do they have to upload any documents to prove their school of attendance or enrollment status?
-
Back in my scholarship administration days, I would accept a Proof of Enrollment from the Registrars Office, Class Schedule or Bill. Anything that confirmed the student was attending in Fall worked for us because the money was sent to the College/University and the amount they owed didn't affect the amount we sent. We gave…

Thank you for sharing Amanda! This is so helpful! Do you mind if people use your language and just adjust it for their own needs?

Hey Abbey, I don't have an example myself, but at a conference I was at talked about doing two scholarships for each award. One that met non-taxable requirements and another for room and board. That way the entire award isn't taxable, just a portion. Not an expert here. Just something to think about.
