Follow up question, would you mind sharing what other topics and speakers you've used in the past? We plan to do a donor education in the fall and are looking for ideas. Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth, We have been thinking something similar, maybe specifically for our Women and Girls Fund that we launched in 2022. We haven't spoken to her or made any plans, but we saw Adrienne Penta speak at the Boston Foundation probably about five years ago on the topic you are asking about. Here's some info. Good luck!…

Thank you, @AlexQuesada!

@ErinStarnes We have also tried to steer away from these. A couple have come to us, but we said they have to be open beyond employees. In one case it was a restaurant group, so we also made hospitality students at our community college eligible, and the other case was a hospital that wanted grants for nurses, so we opened…

I'm late to this thread, but some great discussion here. We are struggling with this question of a pooled scholarship fund. I posted this on another thread - Scholarship Fund Management Questions — Compass | Foundant We do have a general scholarship established by the Board with broad criteria. If we get a donation for…

Our scholarships are $25,000 minimum endowment fund. We have many smaller pass thru scholarships. We are also flexible if people are fundraising to get to the $25k minimum but don't have it up front For funds in the investment pool, the fee for scholarships is 1.50% of market value less than $500,000, with a minimum annual…

Yes, with agency funds the grants must go back to that agency. If they are awarding scholarships and sending money to an institution, it sounds like the agency should have set up a scholarship fund instead, even if the money came from that nonprofit agency. Alternatively, you could grant to the agency and they could…

We also allow deferrals for one year. It could be for any reason. We allow students to use their money in a subsequent year if they can't use it in their first year because of other scholarships, for example. Most of our scholarships are for undergraduate work, so it would depend on the fund and donor, but if a student…

We also struggle with this. This year we made a grant to our technical high school to administer scholarships. We just weren't getting students applying to us. The tech school said they also struggle to get students to apply, but they have relationships with the students, so I'm hopeful they will have better luck.…

We have been talking about this too. We have one board-created scholarship with really broad criteria, so one option is to add smaller funds to that one to have a greater impact. An individual award could still be named in honor of the original fund or fundholder. But would we still charge a fee if it wasn't its own fund?…

These are great responses, thank you! @KatieMcConville, would you be willing to share your survey for students? I would also be interested in hearing how the roundtable goes, great idea!
