Grants for compensations only

Has anyone written a grant just for Compensation? We are a start-up. The grant I want to apply for supports start-up costs. An Administrator is what we need most. Would it be wise to write a $20,000 grant proposal to go toward a position? Thank you

Hi @LindaEkblad. When writing a grant for start-up costs, it is important to build your application around measurable results. The start-up activities may include items like implementing new software for financial management, developing policies and procedure, serving # clients, and or other measurable goals/activities. The administrative support person will help you get to those goals and measurable achievements. A grant narrative will discuss these goals and how you will reach those goals during the grant period. A grant budget will reflect how you will invest the resources to achieve those goals, including items such as staff salary and benefits, equipment, software, and contracts. In regards to whether $20,000 is the right amount to seek, it depends on a couple things:
1) What is your current budget? Is $20K a significant portion of your budget? If so, they may see it as too much of a risk (for the grant maker).
2) Do you have other sources of funding or income for a portion of this position?
3) Is the salary that you are proposing to or already pay this position a fair and livable income?
